Project Summary Report: Leventhorpe School, Sports & Life Skills Intervention 25/26
1. Project Overview
Our organisation partnered with Leventhorpe School to deliver a targeted intervention designed to improve school attendance, wellbeing, and engagement among referred students. The programme ran once a week, with our team collecting students from the school via minibus and transporting them to our activity site for a structured morning of sports, physical activity, and ASDAN‑linked life skills learning.
The core aim was to demonstrate how sport, movement, and practical activities can equip young people with transferable tools that support their everyday lives—particularly around school engagement, behaviour, employability, social development, and resilience.
2. Programme Structure
Each weekly session combined:
A. Physical & Enrichment Activities
A varied programme ensured students remained engaged, motivated, and exposed to new experiences. Activities included:
Boxing
Gym sessions
Football
Padel
Tennis
Golf
Pool & darts
Nature walks
Cooking
Work experience tasters
Music
These activities were intentionally selected to build confidence, teamwork, communication, and self‑management.
B. ASDAN‑Linked Life Skills Topics
Every session was mapped to an ASDAN Personal Development Programme theme, helping students connect physical activity with real‑life skills. Topics included:
Teamwork & communication
Problem‑solving
Managing emotions
Personal wellbeing
Leadership
Planning & organisation
Healthy living
Community involvement
Employability skills
Resilience & coping strategies
This structure helped students understand how the skills they practise in sport directly support their schoolwork, relationships, and future pathways.
3. Outcomes & Impact
A. Attendance & Engagement
Schools reported noticeable improvements in:
Attendance
Punctuality
Willingness to participate in lessons
General attitude and motivation
Several students who were previously disengaged began attending school more consistently on programme days and beyond.
B. Wellbeing & Behaviour
Feedback from students, parents, and teachers highlighted:
Increased confidence
Better emotional regulation
Improved peer relationships
Reduced anxiety around school
A stronger sense of belonging and routine
Students expressed that the weekly sessions gave them something positive to look forward to and helped them feel understood and supported.
C. Student Voice & Co‑Creation
A major success of the project was the way participants shaped the programme. Their ideas and feedback directly influenced:
Session content
Activity choices
The structure of discussions
The development of new community programmes now running outside the school project
This demonstrates genuine empowerment and long‑term impact beyond the intervention itself.
4. Wider Community Impact
The enthusiasm and progress shown by the Leventhorpe cohort helped inspire the creation of new community‑based sessions that are now open to young people across the local area. These include:
Open‑access sports sessions
Holiday activities
Life‑skills workshops
Additional football and gym programmes
The project has therefore contributed to a sustainable, ongoing offer that benefits the wider community.
5. Summary & Conclusion
The Leventhorpe School intervention successfully met its aims of supporting attendance, wellbeing, and personal development through a combination of sport and structured life‑skills learning. The programme:
Provided a safe, supportive environment for referred students
Improved attendance, engagement, and confidence
Strengthened relationships between school, families, and our organisation
Empowered young people to shape future provision
Created lasting community programmes beyond the project
The overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, parents, and school staff demonstrates the value of this approach and highlights the potential for continued partnership and expansion.
