Men’s Mental Health Golf Enrichment Day: Creating Space to Talk, Connect and Thrive

We were proud to partner with NHS Talking Therapies to host a men’s mental health and wellbeing golf enrichment day for a number of our regular community gym members. The day was designed to offer more than just time on the course; it created a relaxed and supportive change of scenery where men could enjoy physical activity, meaningful conversation and gentle access to information about mental health support.

The morning began informally over coffee and bacon rolls, giving participants the opportunity to settle in, connect with one another and speak with NHS Talking Therapies practitioners. These conversations helped the team understand how men currently approach their mental health, what kind of support they might consider if they needed it, and what preferences or barriers may influence whether they reach out for help.

We know that many men can find it difficult to talk openly about their feelings or ask for support when life feels challenging. That is why this enrichment day focused on creating a setting where conversations could happen naturally. Rather than placing pressure on anyone to talk, the event used physical activity, shared experience and informal support as a way to make mental health discussions feel more accessible.

Golf provided the perfect backdrop for the day. Being outdoors, moving together and taking part in an enjoyable activity helped participants feel at ease. Throughout the day, support was available in a calm and approachable way, allowing conversations to develop at a pace that felt comfortable for each person.

For us, the day reinforced the importance of meeting people where they are. By combining wellbeing support with physical activity, community connection and direct conversations with NHS practitioners, we were able to create clearer referral routes into further support for our members while exploring a positive and practical approach to men’s mental health.

We are looking forward to offering more enrichment days like this for the men in our community. We have already pencilled in another golf day with NHS Talking Therapies and hope to build on what we have learned, developing this into an annual event that continues to promote wellbeing, connection and early access to support.
